5 reviews of KitchenAid KSB580NK Custom Metallic 5-Speed Blender
1、I don’t normally writer reviews, although I love reading them to make decisions. For this blender I felt I had to write one because it is really well made and works well. The glass jar is much better than plastic, and the machine really pulls all the food down into the blades as advertised. The only reason I give it a 4 start rating instead of a 5 is that sometimes when you first push a button the force of the blades is strong enough to send the liquid up to the lid and it doesn’t keep all of the liquid in the jar which then has to be cleaned up off the counter. I think it is just the lid design. Overall for a great blended drink this is a great blender!
Originally purchased this blender when my son had surgery that required a liquid diet and it worked so well that I have continued using it long after he has gone back to pizza.
2、Honestly, I’ve been using KitchenAid products for a decade. I broke my last blender. (entirely my fault) They have changed the design in this model and actually improved on what was already a five star appliance.
The carafe shape is better for making sure the stuff inside doesn’t just swirl around. It is a non-circular shape so food folds into itself and mixes better.
I bought it to make smoothies in the morning. I can drop frozen fruit and yogurt into this puppy and the chop ice setting will pulse it into a pulp wonderfully. Then switch to blend to complete the process.
The pieces are easier to take apart and put back together for cleaning too.
I have to say, I am glad I destroyed my old blender; or I would never have realized what a great improvement this model is.
Highly recommended to someone who wants to buy the last blender they will ever need. (if you don’t drop it 3 floors to the pavement) If you are used to buying cheap $50 blenders, please consider that those are meant to break down after a while. KitchenAid lasts forever. Ask any pro who uses Hobart (the commercial name) how long these last.
3、So far, it’s a good blender. When I hit a button, it starts blending. It blends everything– it doesn’t chop, dice or slice, it just pretty much liquifies everything you put in the jar. It can be kind of heady to have that kind of power under your control. I am a HUGE fan of Kitchenaid– my mom has had her mixer for thirty years, and I’ve had mine now for almost ten– so I’m perhaps not hard to impress. Also, this came in Cobalt Blue, a discontinued color that I happen to love, so there’s that.
Yet, my review is not five stars. The blender does smell like a machine when it runs. Why? My mixer doesn’t smell. That makes me suspicious. Also, you have to make sure the glass jar is seated deeply into the base, and even push downward on it when you blend to ensure the gears engage. Otherwise the gears spin and it makes a lot of noise but nothing happens. A perfect blender would allow me to set the jar on, turn it on, and walk away (theoretically; obviously I wouldn’t leave a blender blending without supervision!) but this one seems to require hand-holding. Maybe that’s normal, maybe not. I am an inexperienced blender owner, so I’ll let you decide for yourself. Just the facts, people, just the facts.
4、I purchased this Kitchen Aid Blender after my “old” Kitchen Aid bit the dust after many years of use. I absolutely did not want the polycarbonate container offered by Kitchen Aid and other brands– so the choice of purchasing glass was a huge plus for me. My old blender Jar was stainless steel.
The Blender works beautifully. I mainly use mine for smoothies which means ICE! As much as I loved my old Blender, this one works better. The motor is stronger. So, while my smoothies with my old Kitchen Aid often still had pieces left, this one is just like purchasing a smoothie from a Juice bar.
The only thing I can say that I do not like is, when you use the “ice crush” feature– you HAVE to keep your hand on the top. It will blow the top off! I do this gently because I’ve learned from experience you will definitely ruin your blender from holding it down too tightly. The other options don’t do this, just ice crush.
5、I have had several blenders in the past. They either wore out or did not crush ice or mix without constant stopping and using a rubber spatula to help mix. The Kitchen Aid crushes ice, frozen blueberries and other solids with ease. It is noisy, but so is smashing ice with a hammer in the garage. I use it two to three times a day. It is worth the price. It stays on my counter and is an attractive addition to my kitchen. It’s been a hit with husband, as I make him Cappacino Crushes every afternoon. Better than Starbucks too. I actually have more than paid for this blender with Breakfast Smoothies etc.
5 Reviews of KitchenAid 5-Speed Custom Metallic Blenders
1、I received this as a Christmas gift in 2007. So I have had it for four full months and I have not had a single complaint. I read all the reviews about the sound of the motor but decided it was the best for the price anyway. I’m glad the reviews didn’t deter me; I expected it to sound like a jet engine from all the reviews, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out it sounds like, you guessed it, a blender! The “Liquify” mode is the only one that is really loud, but you only need run it for a few seconds and Voila!
I love the “Crush Ice” mode. It’s perfect for margaritas and smoothies with lots of frozen fruit. I use this blender just about everyday. No leaks, no motor problems. That’s right…it’s a Kitchen-Aid!
I hand-wash mine after every use. It’s never seen the inside of the dishwasher. I’d be interested in hearing from someone who is brave enough. I don’t want to ruin a good thing!
Buy this blender! You won’t regret it! It’s the same price just about everywhere, so no need to comparison shop.
2、I have had this blender for 15 months. It looks great on my countertop and cleans easily. It does crush ice, but not as well as the blender on my Bosch Universal. Think sno-cone, not snow. It is great for large amount blending, like blending soups, which come out perfectly smooth. The problems are:
1. The jar is very broad at the bottom so if you want to make a small thing, like a single, 1 – 2 cup drink, it doesn’t work too well. This is especially true of powdered drinks – no matter how you put in the ingredients or how you start, a good portion of the powder will be all over the lid and upper part of the jar.
2. My blade broke in half yesterday. Mine is used intermittently, sometimes a few times a month, sometimes a few times a week, but by no means is it used heavily. My Bosch has been used WAY more heavily and has never broken/failed in any way. It also has a poly jar.
3. I have always gotten a little black ring on the inside of the base with use. I don’t know if this is a leak or grease or what.
Hope that’s helpful to you. If you’re considering such an expensive machine, you probably don’t worry so much about the replacement part price, but the replacement jar is pretty steep.
3、Our key aim in getting a new blender was making smoothies, and if possible, enough from one batch to serve a family of four. I don’t know the big deal about crushing ice, which many promos discuss, or why someone would add ice to a homemade smoothie. (Perhaps I need to do more to embrace an inner Jimmy Buffet.) We make a variety of smoothies that generally consist of some variation of frozen fruit (e.g., bananas, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc), fruit juice, yogurt, and fresh fruit. I suppose crushing ice has some relationship to making such smoothies, but generally we wanted a blender that can handle a lot of frozen fruit without bogging down. Our last two blenders, both in the $40-60 range, have lasted about 2 years each and eventually starting overheating when put to the effort. We’d have to resort to small, double batches in order to get our smoothie fix. So far (3 months) our KitchenAid KSB580NK (at a little more than twice the cost of our previous purchases) has been amazing. Following the owners manual suggestions, it handles more quantity and higher ratio of frozen fruit, resulting in well-blended, thick smoothies. It does this tough job much quicker and much more efficiently than our other blenders. The only draw back is that it is very loud, but I wouldn’t say it is appreciably louder than our previous blenders. If you are primarily looking to make the kind of smoothies I indicate above, this is a great blender. You can get it more cheaply, if you aren’t wanting the brushed nickel finish we chose, in order to match existing counter appliances. (Yes, our blender stays out on the counter, we make that many smoothies!) I don’t know how amazed I might be at the performance of a $300-400 blender, but I can’t imagine it would be sufficiently higher than that of this KitchenAid to warrant the much higher costs.
4、I wore out a Cuisinart blender after a year on a regime involving a lot of protein shakes. Well before the year elapsed it had all but given up cutting the ice into manageable pieces, but I didn’t bag it until it started spewing oil. For the last 6 months of its life, I drank a lot of shakes with ice boulders, and I thought that was normal. Well, no more. The KitchenAid turns ice cubes into ice dust, and it works so quickly it’s kind of amazing. The consistency of the drinks is perfection. It does look good, as a lot of other reviewers point out, but most amazingly, it really is easier to clean. I don’t know whether it’s because the blades are built in, per se, or whether the profile of the blades with respect to the bottom of the pitcher is different, but stuff just doesn’t stick under the blades like it does in other blenders. A little water and some soap in the container and presto! It’s done.
5、Who knew Ice could be so loud! But this blender will actually make snow!
Yes now you can make your own snowcones!
We don’t but it’s nice to know it can do it.
My wife and I had a mini snowball fight in July, how cool is that!
We bought this to make smoothies and we use fruit that we buy locally and
freeze ourselves.
If you grind up just the fruit is will make it into a frozen powder.
Frozen strawberries are really tough to blend usually, but not with this blender!
Sure we’ve only had it a week but it cleans up super easy, just rinse then 1/3 of
the jar filled with water and 4 drops of detergent. Then rinse and reblend water.
no foam and you’re good to go.
Lots of reviews say this is loud, and it is. The ice sounds like gravel in there.
But out comes snow from the ice after 20 seconds!
Thick stuff like yogurt tends to create a vaccuum where it will stop blending.
Also when it first comes on it does so with a vengeance!
I hope we get a few years out of it, we bought the chrome one and saved 30 bucks.
Getting the black one wasn’t worth the extra cash.
If you are making smoothies this is a great blender, if you are making soup it’s
great as long as you want liquid only. If you want any chunks at all, buy a
different blender. This turns everything to powder or smooth liquid.
Five review of KitchenAid KSB560OB 5-Speed 56-Ounce Blender
1、People may say a blender is not exactly rocket science. The thing in the bottom spins and the blade chops up whatever you throw in there. (no offense, but that’s a very female point of view). A motor does not only need wattage (or hp) to mash up things, but torque as well. This baby has a well balanced engine. Although I run it on 115Volt/50Hz, which means about 16% less power, it handles everything easily. Dried fruits for Christmas cake, Coconut for Sunday Dinner, Frozen Meats, …
I would have given five stars, if it wasn’t for the jar. I just personally prefer glass. It doesn’t get dull and provides more hygiene (or at least I think so. I may be wrong). The capacity is perfect though. Let’s say it gets 4.5 stars.
The delivery was perfect. As expected from amazon. I never had any problems with them.
2、We make smoothies every day and this blender handles everything we’ve put in it well: frozen banana chunks, frozen strawberries, kale leaves, fresh chunks of beet. We’d had two (much more expensive) Cuisinart blenders before this one with heavy glass containers. This one weighs seemingly a quarter of those. That’s an advantage. But I also like this better because eventually the other ones leaked out the bottom because the seals failed or the bottom piece became corrupted, but this one is a single piece so leaking out the bottom doesn’t seem to be a concern (and hasn’t been with us despite at least one other review that says it leaked). Also, because it’s a single piece, it’s easy to clean.
I also like that it builds up to the speed you’ve selected rather than instantly going that fast. This seems to help stop explosions out the top.
Positives: it’s able to handle everything we’ve tried in it and it doesn’t leak and it’s lightweight but strong and it’s easy to clean. And the price is good for what the blender can do.
Negatives: The only negative we’ve found after a year of use is that because the blender is one piece, when you try to blend something like a sauce, you can’t use a spatula to get out every last drop under the blades.
3、I bought this to make protein smoothies for breakfast before work. I’m and Air Traffic Controller and work 6 days a week and make one everyday for breakfast. My wife has been making about 4 smoothies a week as well, so far we have used it roughly 50 times with no problems what so ever. It’s very easy to use, and powerful. If however it does get jammed, from ice chances getting stuck or whatever it may be it has a clutch that makes sure you don’t destroy the gears on the blender. You can tell when this happens by the vastly higher pitch noise it makes, similar to a vacuum when you stop the hose.
Overall a very good blender and I an very happy with my purchase!
4、I know a blender is a kitchen staple, but I just never really had one.
On my recent honeymoon, we stayed someplace tropical and in a suite equipped with a full kitchen, including this very blender (the whole place was decked out in KitchenAid).
We lived on tropical smoothies while we were there. I made them once or twice, and then we were hooked. Ice goes in a long way in getting a frothy fruity shake that’s not too sweet or heavy.
So when we got home I knew I needed to get a blender. I had a LOT of store credit at a certain high end kitchen store because we received many gift certificates. Enough to buy a vitamix blender, which costs 7-8 times what this one costs. And if you read the reviews for vitamix, you’d think these people never lived until they had one. I don’t know – what could be that good about a blender? I was so happy with the kitchenAid. So I finally decided that I’d get this model, and if I became a total blender addict I could upgrade in a couple of years or something. The only thing left to do was agonize over color. I was wary of the metallic chrome because I hate the look of plastic that’s trying to look like metal … but I ordered that color anyway and to my delight it doesn’t look cheap at all.
The blender has been working perfectly so far, and I’m very very happy. it makes ice seem like ice cream – which is pretty weird, but I’m not complaining. I am glad I didn’t get the Vitamix. This is a perfect blender.
5、Great product, works great, well made. I was hesitant to buy this blender because of the plastic pitcher, but it is very thick and will take a lot of abuse. I also thought it might be hard to clean because the blades don’t disconnect from the pitcher, but following the instructions to add soap and water and hit blend cleaned the blades right up with just a little wiping on the sides of the pitcher to finish the job. Plus, the smooth control top on the motor section makes that part very easy to clean. The motor is very powerful and heavy, and everything I have thrown in it gets done properly. The pulse action is great for chopped items. All in all, this works much better than the more expensive one I had before. Consumer Reports made a great call with this one.
